The deadliest strikers of 21st century have been ranked; Messi comes in 2nd while Ronaldo finishes 3rd
Footballing superstars, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are widely considered to be the two greatest footballers in the history of the sport, with the duo dominating football for more than a decade as seen by the combined 11 Ballon d'Or awards they have won between themselves.
Messi and Ronaldo have each scored 700 goals each, but as per Transfermarkt, neither of them can get the title of the deadliest forward since the turn of the millennium. As per numbers, the title of the deadliest striker in the 21st century goes to Borussia Dortmund youngster, Erling Haaland who averages 0.98 goals-per-game.
Messi for his part comes in second with an average of 0.80 goals-per-game with 755 career goals to his name while his great rival, Ronaldo finishes in third place with 0.75 goals-per-game after netting 790 goals so far.
Bayern Munich hitman, Robert Lewandowski who has arguably been the best striker in the world over the past three years finds himself placed fourth with an average of 0.74 goals-per-game with 486 goals to his name while England and Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane rounds up the top-five with an average of 0.64 goals-per-game.
