What I’ll do differently as gov, by Nwankwo

The African Action Congress (AAC) candidate in Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State, Dr. Chidozie Nwankwo, has promised to bring his over 40 years’ experience as an employer of labour to bear in running the affairs of the state if elected.

The businessman, industrialist and philanthropist also said he would fight corruption and give merit a chance by appointing people with track records of integrity and competence into government positions. 

Addressing his supporters at his campaign office in Awka, Anambra State, yesterday, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Wichtech Groups, added that if he emerges victorious at the poll, his administration would run the state like a successful business organisation where employees are committed to work and produce results under a transparent and accountable process. 

He observed that one of the factors militating against good governance in Nigeria was the culture of not putting square pegs in the right holes.

“Second, most people see government quarters as a place to consume both the principal and profit and as such, they don’t care about the results expected from the sitting government,” he added.

He insisted that his administration would not only ensure that right people were appointed into the right positions to serve, but also would run a corrupt-free government committed to produce results. 

“In the cause of my campaign, I said I will ensure tight security, ensure development in agriculture, a robust road construction in cities and rural areas, massive development in education, enhanced development in healthcare plus sports development among others.

“I have also said that I will speed up the conduct of local council election. I am sure that as a person with enough exposure and experience, I will fulfil all my

promises. But I need a corrupt-free system; I need people of integrity and competence to be able to accelerate the pace to get the promises fulfilled,” said he. 

Nwankwo also said that if elected, he would collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including the elders, community leaders, religious leaders and market leaders, adding that such stakeholders were good avenues of getting services across to people.
